Description
Tetrapanax papyrifer
Rice Paper Plant
Tetrapanax papyrifer is an exotic large leaved shrub from Taiwan. The large tropical leaves can reach 1m wide. Evergreen in very mild winters but usually loses them. The pith from the stem is used to make rice paper. A must have for any exotic garden. This is the standard form of Tetrapanax papyrifer and not the ‘Rex’ variety which does have deeply cut foliage and the indumentum is beige in colour. We do tend to have these during the season too. This is still well worth growing and can get just as large and impressive so don’t be put off. You can see form the main photo.
Max Height 3m.
Sun/dappled shade.
Hardy -10°C.
