Description
Echium pininana
Tree Echium
A rosette-forming bi-annual or short-lived perennial with silver-hairy leaves. Each rosette produces a panicle of funnel-shaped blue flowers with large bracts. Native to the Canary Islands. Once you have one in your garden after flowering you should always have them as they grow from seed easily. The trick is getting through the first winter to ensure folowering the next year, so best to protect the crown in cold winters.
Max Height 4m. Max Spread 90cm.
Flowers July to August.
Full sun.
Frost hardy.
Skin irritant.
