BRIGHAMIA insignis
Hawaiian Palm
An unusual palm from Hawaii with a stout fleshy stem which is larger at the base. New leaves are fleshy and spoon-shaped and form a crown around the top of the stem. Small yellow, star-shaped flowers appear in winter. Brighamia insignis is listed as endangered and is therefore protected under the United States endangered species act.
