TEN YEARS ON & NEW STOCK!

Ten years ago when I said I was going to start a business called Amulree Exotics selling Palms, Canna, Banana’s, Bamboo & Treeferns everyone looked at me as if I was completely mad, ‘you’ll never make a living doing that’ they all said! Well 10 years on, I‘m still here and I’m still doing it!
From humble beginnings in my back garden, [until the local council stopped me] then on to ‘Tropical wings’ a butterfly house near Chelmsford in Essex where I built the business up over the next 4 years. I then felt it was time to expand again, only this time to spread my wings and move into my own property, so I bought the current nursery site in Norfolk, and with planning permission built my own house here, [no excuse for being late for work now!]
Over the years we’ve found ourselves exhibiting at many shows around the country, including the big RHS shows on regular occasions at Hampton court, Tatton park & Gardeners world, we also did a charity garden at the NEC for Christian aid which was designed by Diarmuid Gavin.
The TV and radio has often come a calling , we have supplied plants to all the major channels, even appearing a couple of times myself!
One of the biggest highlights has to be when we delivered 5 specimen Bismarkia nobilis palms to her Majesty the Queen, delivering them myself to Buckingham Palace was a real thrill!
I am also very proud of introducing special plants into the UK for the very first time, such as Musa ‘Siam ruby’ & Phyllostachys ‘shanghai 3’. This year we have some more firsts for you , Colocasia ‘Mojito’, Hedychium ‘Disney’, Butia archer & Syagrus yungasensis, to name but a few.
Not content with these we have many rare gems either here or on the way soon. Already in stock are Todea Barbara, Musa Laterita, Aeonium ‘Voodoo’ & Agave Medio-picta alba.
To follow, week beginning 15th Feb are, deep breath required, around 1,400 superb quality plants, some of which I will start to list for you; Succulents to include large Agave Weberi, Celsii, Geminiflora, Decipiens &Sisalana. Hardy specmen cacti, Trichocereus Pasacana, Terscheckii, Candicans & Pachanoi, also the not so hardy, Ferocactus pilosus, Golden Barrel cactus and even the rare white spined form, and the super blue column cactus Azzurocereus up to 1m high!
If its hardy Yucca’s you’re after look no further as we have some of the finest Yucca Aloifolia we’ve ever had also 3 sizes of the variegated form, also coming shortly will be Rostrata’s, Thompsoniana, Rigida & Treculeana.
The Palms will also be in good supply, it’s a toss up which will look the most impressive the 4.5m trunk Trachycarpus Fortunei, or the 5m trunk Sabal Palmetto.
Theres also a good selection of Chamaerops Humilis, with the blue form ‘Cerifera’ and the tight leaved form ‘Volcano’, specimen Washingtonia’s both Fillifera & Robusta, 5 sizes of Phoenix canariensis, along with Brahea armata & edulis, Jubaea, Copernicia, Parajubaea, Dypsis & Ravanaea these are just some of the other palms.
There’s so much more to come inc, Bougainvillea, Mangoe, Hibiscus, lots of Colocasia, Alocasia , Musa, & Olives.
We also have a new section on the web site of ‘Young palms’, most of these will have at least 1 adult leaf and are of course very rare!
